As a manager, you are responsible for a number of things. It is up to you to ensure that deadlines are met, employees are working hard, and goals are being accomplished. What often isn’t mentioned, which is arguably one of the most important responsibilities of a manager, is ensuring that employees have what they need to succeed. Follow these tips to make sure you’re creating an environment for success.

Set Goals and Objectives

The first step to putting your employees on the path to success is to have them determine what they want to achieve. Whether it is short-term, in the form of a project, or long-term, like their ongoing job responsibilities, it is crucial to have your employees lay out in writing their goals and objectives. Have them determine what it is they want to achieve, how they will go about making this happen, when they want to achieve it by, and how they will measure their success.

Provide Feedback

Once your employees have begun to put their objectives in motion, be sure to provide them with feedback. Make a time for you and your employee to meet to review her progress. Be open and honest. Discuss what is working and what isn’t working and make a plan of action moving forward. Ask your employee what she thinks she could do to improve her efforts and provide her with your opinion. Don’t be afraid to give criticism yet present it as actionable advice so as not to discourage your employee from her goal.

Be Accessible and Approachable

Throughout the time that your employee is trying to achieve success, be sure to always make yourself available and approachable. You have an opportunity to be a role model and confidant and trying to achieve success can be challenging. Be there for your employees with advice and moral support to ensure that they are always in the right mindset for success.

As a manager it is your duty to do everything you can to create opportunities for your employees to be successful. And when they succeed, you succeed.
